Here is something my friends in foreign countries do not have to deal with, Politics’ in the marriage, now maybe you do and I am wrong, but you do not have to deal with “I’m a democrat and you’re a republican and I love but yet hate you for that” BS.
As many of you know, this election is getting pretty heated over here, with the war, and energy crisis, plus a slew of other fun items, our future president has a TON of stuff to deal with when he gets into office, and a MASSIVE mess to clean-up.
The truth is, not a lot of Americans feel that we have any good choices, now granted I am a democrat, the daughter of a hard working Union man, and I believe the government should work for the people, not the other way around.
Now my husband….well he is a republican, and yes that makes it extremely tough at times. That is probably our one potentially explosive pitfall, basically he cannot respect my political opinions, I am not asking for him to agree with them, just respect them. But he doesn’t do this and honestly it can really hurt me sometimes, possibly more than he knows.
The truth is, I hate politics’, I mean who really LIKES it? But the older I get the more I feel the need to get involved. It sucks not being able to discuss stuff like this with my husband. When Obama won the democratic nominee, I had to leave the room to cheer.
If and when he wins the White house, well….lets just say I am not planning on being home when they announce it, I will be at my parents’ house cheering……….. 40 miles away.
It is the one thing that I hate about my marriage, the ONLY thing.
And you would think that it is such a small part, but its not, it’s a HUGE part when your husband is extremely opinionated and angry at everything. I could be sitting on the couch watching the news and some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth, makes my skin crawl.
During the Bush re-election, we weren’t married, and broke up a total of 3 times during that whole process. Yes I like Obama, yes I have a lot of faith in him, but do not believe he is the answer to all of Americas issues, I mean really no ONE person could be…..cept maybe Chuck Norris…………………
But the put downs on the way that I was raised, my “liberal mind” and the constant bashing, has taken a huge toll on me, and it is damaging. Now mind you I don’t go around shoving my beliefs in HIS face, but yet he does it to me constantly.
After having a Kerry/ Edwards sticker ripped off of my car 4 times, by my husband, I don’t even do that anymore. But deep down, it kills me; I hate it, because I can be quite opinionated also. And its funny because the people we hang out with are all Independent or Democrat, and they are all real good about not saying the wrong things to him or starting discussions that will get him worked up into a find frenzy. But they still wonder how we make it work, and honestly I don’t know what to tell them, cause a lot of the time it doesn’t work. I just figure that since he married me, he has to put up with me, and if he really loves me enough he wont let this get in the way of us…….But that’s only on the good days.
